Dialing 0 doesn't give you an operator and I can't figure out how to reach one.

Thanks.

For some reason my actual question "how do I dial a collect call from the UK" didn't show up in the post. How did you knew the answer without the question?

"How do you dial a collect call from the UK?" ended up being the title of this post - see it up there in your browser title bar? You must have typed it into the wrong field.

To make a collect call, you call the operator, so the answers are both the same. 0 would be a bad choice for the operator number, of course.. since every phone number starts with 0 ;-)

Here we call it "calling reverse charges" rather than making a collect call, and yes, dial 100. There's also a service called 0800 REVERSE that I know nothing about it other than that it's fully endorsed by Miss Holly Valance.

Bear in mind that a reverse charges (collect) call will be very expensive. If this is going to be a regular occurrence, you probably want to get an international phone-card or if you have access to a BT telephone and friendly person then you can get 1p/min and it'll just go directly on the bill. Let me know if you're interested in details.

Of course, if you just want to tell someone to call you back, then when you speak to the operator just say that your first name is "Call" and last name is "Whatever-your-name-is", and the person receiving the call should just refuse the call. If you do want to do this, perhaps use 0800 reverse because they use an automated system whereas BT has a physical person.
