Useful but not well-known web tools

Recent/Obscure web applications and tools filter. I am talking with a government department (Economic Development) about using web based applications and tools both internally and externally. I've got the basics covered, but it would be nice to include mentions of some less-than-famous apps or tools that have been of use elsewhere. If there are any that have provided some mileage for you or your organisation, especially govt ones, I'd love to hear about them.

These are mostly research tools, but they might be applicable.

Sorry, I should have explained - that's not an app itself, it's a U.S. federal government infrastructure project for providing apps, so if you poke around a bit you'll find the list of apps they provide and maybe there's even some usage statistics somewhere.

Thanks XMLicious - just poking through I found some good stuff I could use. I would still like any applications or tools that people have used successfuly in the past.
