How do I make my folding chopping board stay flat enough to chop on?

I have one of these that I bought because I thought it looked both cool and useful, and using it as a scoop works quite nicely, but during the chopping bit, it doesn't stay flat unless I prop something under the handle to keep it vertical. Is there something I'm missing, or is it just a badly thought out product?

I used to own one of those boards, and mine had the same problem. It always seemed to me like a defect of execution-- the material (polyethylene?) "remembered" its bent shape and kept reverting to that instead of remaining flat. Floppier joints would have helped, as would a set of clips to stabilize the hinges near the handle, but then the board might not have been as durable/simple to use.

I threw it out after a few months.

Have you tried using it upside down?

Badly thought out product.

I agree with Rhizome- that product looks badly designed. I've seen flexible plastic cutting surfaces around that you can bend and flex easily- they're fairly cheap.
