Country's Got Soul?

More Like This: watching Heartworn Highways, I came across Larry Jon Wilson and have been trying to run down more music that sounds like this. Can you provide some leads?

They talk about it as "Country Soul" and I've found two compilations (1, 2) that fit the bill, but most searches for the phrase lead to specifically to black artists from the deep south or Ray Charles' country work. I'm more interested in the . . . funk sound of it, the blues/ boogie sound, sort of like Lynyrd Skynrd with Bootsie Collins sitting in. What other artists fit the bill (even if it's just for one album)?

I've been debating whether this was worth troubling busy AskMe about, but the guy up and died on me yesterday a few months after I found him and a few hours after he friended me on Facebook, so I figured I should get off my duff.
