Can you identify this jazz piece?

Identify this (20 sec/400kb mp3) wistful jazz piece (and/or recommend me similar music).

I recently watched the documentary "The Promised Land", and want to identify a tune played in the background (the clip above is the first 20 seconds of it). I couldn't find any information in the episode credits.

I'd also be interested in your recommendations for jazz pieces in a similar style -- to give a few more reference points, maybe something like Duke Ellington & John Coltrane's In a sentimental mood, or Jerry Goldsmith's Love Theme from Chinatown.

According to Midomi this is Sergei Nakariakov and the song is called: Hoffmeister Concerto in D Major - Adagio

I think you'll really like Wynton Marsalis, check out his Marsalis Standard Time album to start.

Best answer: And a little googling based along that hunch turns up that Terence Blanchard was nominated for Best Original Score for a TV Mini-Series Emmy for that show.

Check out the Terence Blanchard Quartet as well as any "Associated Artists" on that wikipedia page. Keep doing that until you have a whole library. Enjoy!

There's Miles Davis' Flamenco Sketches, of course.

Uh... I think Midomi is mistaken.

What jazz do you already listen to? (I know you gave two examples, but what albums do you already have?)

Response by poster: Ok, now I found a soundtrack cd, so I'm guessing it's somewhere on there.

Thank you for all the recommendations so far!

For similar things there's Every Time We Say Goodbye or maybe 'Round Midnight

FWIW, a jazz muso I live with guesses it may be Terence Blanchard, or less likely but possibly Tyrell Stafford.

You might check out the work of Lalo Schifrin:
Bullitt
Insensatez
Theme from the Cincinnati Kid
(I'm a novice at jazz, but stuff in this vein might be categorized under the name 'cool jazz'.)

Very similar to Chelsea Bridge by Strayhorn/Ellington but with more of a minor sonority.
