Must Have Music At All Times

I killed my Logitech Ipod speakers, which I carted with me whenever I traveled, by leaving them plugged into a Madrid outlet with my transformer setting on "high." Doh! I love having good portable speakers with me when I travel, and am looking to replace with either this Logitech model or these Bose speakers.

I'm concerned about reviews indicating the Logitech sometimes auto turns off while playing quiet (e.g. classical) music, as lots of mine is that type. But the Bose are $200 more expensive and look a bit heavier, and don't come with travel case.

Appreciate anyone's assistance in helping me to stop dithering about this decision.

I had that Logitech briefly (it got stolen the second time I used it...). I liked it pretty well; for the size the volume and SQ was quite decent and the built-in battery, snap-in AC adapter and travel case were all very handy. The SQ didn't approach that of the larger units, but it was great for a portable travel setup.

However, I didn't listen to any classical music so I can't comment on the unit turning off during quiet parts. I wonder if that happens on just the iPod or just the line-in jack, or both, and whether it's on AC or battery power, or both. If you could find answers to those questions it may influence your decision. I would imagine the problem would happen on battery and not AC (why power save on AC?) and on line-in and not via the iPod dock, but that's just a guess.

One last thing: You can save a significant amount by buying that Logitech refurbished. They have them occasionally on their refurb site (I got mine there for $60), but Googling for Logitech Pure Fi Anywhere refurbished should yield plenty of other vendors.

Response by poster: I ended up with the Logitech speakers, with help from a MeFi Logitech employee (THANK YOU), and I am really happy. I am also very impressed with the quality of Logitech customer support, who did their best to fix the problem, then when that didn't work, gave me a great deal on the speakers I was considering.
