Getaway for two.

Looking for a nice place for a couple to get away for the weekend. Age 25, location south east PA, NJ is an option too. Any personal experiences?

Going through an extremely bad time with a girlfriend of 5 years. We need some time alone as we both live with our respective parents ( life isn't simple, for those that are judging here).

Does anybody have any suggestions? Relaxation and conversation are the primary concerns(romance won't hurt either ;-) ) Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cape May, NJ, for B&B action or camping at Cape Henlopen, DE, for a beachy nature escape. Good luck to you both!

The Inn at Montchanin in the Brandywine Valley of Delaware is a romantic escape that I dream of returning to one day.

I've stayed at the Cornwall Inn which is a nice B&B between Harrisburg and Reading and north of Lancaster (map). The place is extremely quiet, there's a nice bike path nearby to take a walk on. The food is good and if you want to be left alone, they leave you alone. You'd be kind of in the middle of nowhere in Amish country - Lititz is fairly nearby and has Wilbur's Chocolates which makes something resembling Hershey's Kisses but using good chocolate. I hear that the Ephrata Cloisters are nice. There aren't a heck of a lot of great places to eat out there, but there's the always reliable, inexpensive Kountry Kitchen.

I have family in the area, so my take on this is colored by visiting them with my parents: we like taking walks, drives, bike rides. There are lots of farm stands with good produce.

I am a fan of Lancaster, Pa., and have heard good things about the Lancaster Arts Hotel. Saturday morning, take a walk downtown to Central Market. Grab some breakfast or lunch. (Parking is available, though tight, next to the market.) Catch a show at the Fulton. Browse the funky shops of Queen Street and other local sights. Lititz is small, but if your friend likes chocolate, you could do worse than buy dark chocolate Wilbur Buds there. Back in Lancaster, there's always a stroll through Franklin & Marshall College--pretty buildings and lovely trees (it's an arboretum, or so I'm told). Bring lunch and sit and chat in Buchanan Park, adjacent to the College. Sunday nights, nearby Long's Park hosts a great free music series. Pack a picnic, go early and enjoy the evening.

I wish you both luck with finding the right time and place to renew your relationship.

I am also in SE PA. In May I looked for a calm peaceful weekend getaway for my husband and I, and determined after much searching on-line that the shore, in general, is about twice as expensive as the Poconos. So we are going to the Delaware Water Gap area in July. I can't give a thumbs up for the place since we haven't stayed there yet! Delaware Water Gap has beautiful scenery and (hopefully) quiet hikes. Good luck!

My folks take a lot of little getaway nights to New Hope, PA. Peaceful, countryish, lots of shops, antiques, great places to eat breakfast. A nice place to just walk around or sit by the river, enjoying the weather.

Definitely Cape May/Cape May Point/Sunset Beach. High season (i.e. crowded season) doesn't start until July 4th weekend. June & September are the best times of year to be there.
Meander through Leaming's Run Gardens while you're in the area.

Mr. TEA and I had a great time at the Albert Stevens Inn in Cape May last summer. We've also stayed at the Inn at Montchanin Village twice, and it's very nice. It's only a few minutes away from Longwood Gardens, which is incredibly beautiful. You might want to check to see what's in bloom in the gardens before you plan your trip.
