Group camping/cabin within 3 hours of Portland, OR?

Where should 12 people get a cabin or go camping for 2 nights on the 4th of July weekend that is within 2-3 hours of Portland, OR?

We are planning to get out of town on Friday afternoon and returning on Sunday afternoon on the weekend of July 4th. Thanks in advance!

Preferences:

For either --

1) Prefer to be near a river, large creek, or lake

2) Near something to do, like go hiking (esp to waterfalls or a swimming hole)

3) Must be secluded

4) Must be able to make a reservation, unless (in the case of camping) you are absolutely certain that nobody else will be at the site -- in this case, please send me a PM to keep it a secret!

If a cabin --

1) Must be able to go for only 2 nights (some have 3-4 day minimums)

2) Must accommodate 12 people, prefer at least 5 double beds or better (2 people are willing to sleep on twins or futons).

3) Hot tub preferred :)

If camping --

1) Must be secluded, but within a relatively short walk (5 minutes) of car parking

2) Not near any major highways (don't want to hear it)

3) Not near any other campsites, especially RVs

4) Don't need facilities like restrooms or water

Response by poster: Two cabins sleeping 6+ people each that are relatively close to one another would work, too.

I had loads of great ideas til you specified you don't want to be near any other campsites. 4th of July is a super busy holiday weekend, and the idea of finding someplace remote but within a few hours of a huge population center of outdoorsy people--well, that's a tall order. And at least a few of the campgrounds I was going to recommend (Camp Creek and Trillium Lake up near Mt. Hood) are already too full to accommodate your group with any sense of privacy.

But, I am not here only to be unhelpful. I suggest taking a wander through Reserve America's website. You can specify that you want group sites, the dates, the location (ie near Portland).

A group site could work because you'll be, by default, separate from the rest of the campground.

This is all for camping by the way. For houses, I've had good luck with Vacation Rentals by Owner.

There's a reserveable group campground at Lewis and Clark State Park which is about 90 minutes north of Portland. Every time I've been there it's been uncrowded. It's only a few miles from I-5 so getting there is easy. You have to call the park to make reservations for the group campground.

Response by poster: I figured out the technical term for what I'm looking for is "dispersed camping"...
