Great list of independent publishers

Can you point me to a good list of independent publishers?

Hey there! I'd love to look a good list of independent and/or small presses. I've done some searching around but I haven't come across the awesome list I've been looking for. The newpages.com list was ok, but left me wanting more.

I'm not looking for university presses or publishers that do poetry.

Can you help me?

Thank you!

Best answer: What do you need it for? Are you looking for someone to publish your work, or someone to go to work for? If to publish your work, what kind of writing is it? If to work for, what do you want to do?

There's always the AAP, though it looks like their site's been p0wn3d. I'm getting a malware warning.

I've always really been impressed by the publishers distributed by Publishers Group West. Though there are great small presses not carried by PGW.

Again, depends on your specifics, I suppose.

One of the most useful lists of publishers I've ever used is the bookbuyer's handbook compiled by the American Booksellers Association, but you need to be a member to get access to it. You're local library may have access to a copy. But again, it may not be all that useful. It is, however, very complete.

Best answer: Check out Alternative Publishers of Books in North America. It's not online, but there are some copies in libraries.
