Good: vacation in Israel. Bad: driving in Tel Aviv. Where do I get coverage?

How does an American citizen get auto insurance in Israel for a 6 week trip?

I'm going to be in Israel for 6 weeks this summer.

My auto insurance company will not extend coverage beyond the US and Canada. I have a credit card (Citibank World Mastercard) that will provide rental car coverage in Israel - one of very very few that do so. I believe this provides collision and theft protection, but not liability coverage. So that's one issue.

Also, friend has offered to lend me a car for part of the time I am there. If I were to drive this car, would I be relying on the automobile owner's coverage, or do I need to buy an Israeli auto policy for coverage - and if so do you know of any company that offers short term coverage for tourists?

Best answer: From Ms. Vegetable: Call Fireman's Fund. I believe one of their products offers worldwide anything. If they don't, an independent agent should be able to point you to one who does.
