Simple, smart maternity wear in the UK?

Modest / non-fancy maternity wear in UK?

My wife and I (living in London, UK) have trawled the high-street stores (seriously, most of them - Westfields has them all!) for some simple, smart maternity wear, especially dresses, that she can wear to work during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

She found some trousers (that's pants in US words) but that was it (one pair). Any suggestions for other shops to try?

Mamas and Papas? Mothercare? Gap?

I'd also suggest sending out some feelers to your friends and family. IME, maternity clothes are passed around between friends more than purchased outright.

If you were in the U.S., I'd strongly recommend Old Navy's maternity clothes.

You really couldn't find basic wrap dresses or skirts at M&S Maternity? It's not a vast selection but geeze, one pair of trousers is a depressing shopping trip. Are you willing to buy online? A Pea in the Pod provides international shipping. So does Japanese Weekend.

If she's stuck (or thrifty!) she could try second hand items for a broader range of stores. They are grouped by size and a lot of them are BNWT, so they're unworn.

My wife recommends La Redoute and JoJo Maman Bebe and she normally looks good so I guess I recommend them too!

Japanese Weekend is AMAZING and those tops also work as nursing tops.

I'd suggest a quick saunter down the Nappy Valley around Northcote Road, Battersea. There's a JoJo Maman Bebe and at least a couple of other places too like Pretty Pregnant and La Conception (Webbs Rd).

C&A is hardly 'high quality' but it does have a wide range including some pretty good pieces for work.

I can't recommend Isabelle Oliver highly enough – and the non-pregnancy range is fab too.

Arse. That's IsabellA, with an 'A', not Isabelle.

Pop into the nearest H&M that has a maternity wear department, at the very least she can get those big-belly pantyhose she'll need there. I found a stretchy dress with long cuffed sleeves and a funky pattern that felt dressy enough to work in, and since it was 'stretchy' it was basically the only thing left I could wear at the very end of my pregnancy. Stretchy stuff rules. Accessorize like nuts to change things up.
Funky bump and bloomingmarvellous have some good dresses.
