A question about the Russian soccer league

What happens in Russia to the soccer league when the national team qualify for tournaments? I know the league runs throughout the summer, but does it continue despite the World Cup/European Cup, even if Russia qualify?

Best answer: After last Saturday's matches (May 15th) the RPL has gone on a World Cup break; matches resume on July 7th.

Also taking a break: the J-League in Japan, the Norwegian Tippeligaen (June 7th - July 4th, even though they haven't qualified), the League of Ireland (likewise) and MLS in the United States. The non-qualifying teams have good reason to take time off -- everyone's attention is elsewhere, including the players.

In Mexico the league continues, but without the players that are in the national team. Sucks to be a good team then!

Response by poster: Thanks guys! A mystery solved - and cheers for the extra info too.
As regards the Mexican league, I guess about half the national team play abroad so the effect isn't as marked as it could be. I think 5 or 6 of them play for Guadalajara though, so they'd certainly notice!
