I need help finding this book: The World's Best Fairy Tales.

I need help finding this book: The World's Best Fairy Tales. I think it is a Reader's Digest Anthology, but I'm looking for a specific cover that I remember vividly from childhood.

The best I could gather so far from my research are the following:
- it is a Reader's Digest Anthology
- it is edited by Belle Becker Sideman
- it is illustrated by Fritz Kredel
- it may have been published in 1967

I have searched in different bookstores and websites and can't find the same book from my childhood. The results that I get do have the same title and editor, but in some results it is a two-part volume and different covers, like these two:
- http://cgi.ebay.com/Worlds-Best-Fairy-Tales-Readers-Digest-2-vol-set-/180494710244?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Childrens_Books&hash=item2a0652b5e4#ht_500wt_1182

The book from my childhood:
- hard bound, no dust jacket
- red cover, with the board having illustrations of vines (or something like it)
- clothed spine, red as well, but has the text "World's Best Fairy Tales" in gold
- the edges of the pages are gold as well
- my mom says the year of publication must be 1967 but she can't be sure

The only lead I got so far, which tells me I am not crazy, is here: http://loganberrybooks.com/stump-ef.html (see "F172: fairytale collection thick detailed illustrations").

But after that I don't know where else to go.

This is eating away at me for some reason. I am trying to find all the books I have read during my childhood and have been a big part of my life. It's like I have lost children whom I need to find :(

If anyone can help, and maybe even point me somewhere I can buy a copy, it would really mean so much to me.

Thank you.

Best answer: It's likely that the Amazon and Ebay versions you found were just later printings. It looks like this copy at AbeBooks is the version you seek.

There are 69 in all. Illustrations by Fritz Kredel feature full-page color plates. Published by Reader's Digest Association, Pleasantville, NY, in 1967. Library of Congress #67-27762. Response by poster: @gubenuj: Thank you! I have sent my query to the bookseller just now to see if it's indeed the book I am trying to find. Would you know if AbeBooks is reliable like Amazon? I've never tried buying from it before.

@MonkeyToes: Thanks. Unfortunately I am not in Australia so I can't check it out :( As for the shopgoodwill description: my heart just about stopped...then plummeted when I saw that it was already sold to someone else :( But at least I have more details about the book now.

@Paragon: Yes! The red one, yes that's it! I hope I can find a seller.

Abebooks, in my experience, is quite reliable, though look at seller feedback.

Yes, I buy from Abebooks frequently. You can usually use a credit card or Paypal. Like eleanna says, you should check the seller ratings--I don't usually buy from anyone with three or fewer stars.

Response by poster: Hi guys. I just received word from the seller at AbeBooks. It was the same book, but not the edition I was looking for :( *sigh* Guess the search continues...
