Why is google redirecting to gmail?

Gmail Firefox issue. My Firefox homepage is set to google. I sometimes use igoogle, sometimes not. This morning it has been acting up. When I go to the homepage, it automatically redirects to gmail login. This happens automatically so that I can't search from google. It does not occur in ie. What is going on here?

What happens when you open firefox in Safe Mode? If it's OK there, it could be down to extensions, themes or toolbars.

Does it always redirect you? Say if you type the address into the address bar. Or is it just if you start firefox and wait for the homepage to load? Are you sure you've got the right homepage - what's actually in Tools, Options, General? Can you search google from the search box up in the top right?

Are you clearing cookies or otherwise logging out of google? If your homepage is set to igoogle, and you're no longer logged in, then when you start your browser it's going to go straight to the login page instead of giving you the default google search page.

Yes, it always redirects, even if i type in the address (www.google.com). I checked my homepage and that is what it is set to (www.google.com). I can search from the search box in the top right. I tried to trouble shoot using safe mode, but the behavior is continuing. Thank you for the help.

It looks like google might be redirecting you to iGoogle: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/07/igoogle-redirects.html (Second paragraph)
Try signing in, and then go to igoogle.com, then click "Classic Home" in the right-hand corner. It'll send you to google. See if that fixes the problem.
