What's the name of the famous (American?) painting of a woman lying face down (slantwise?) on a prairie?
Best answer: Do you mean Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World">?

Best answer: I'd say it is definitely, as suggested, Wyeth's Christina's World. The Time magazine article about the work that is a source on the wikipedia page is worth a read to get the background about the image.

I love that painting. So weird and haunting. I had the poster on my bedroom wall in high school. Gave me the creeps in a good way.

It has to be Christina's World. My aunt had a copy on her wall during my childhood, so I remember it fondly.
I actually never knew the title of it until my teens when flipping through an art book, and it was kind of odd to find out since my name is Christina.

It's at the MoMA in NY... in a hallway. Not one of the gallery rooms, but it the hall near the escalators on the fifth floor. It seemed such an odd place for it. It's not near any other art... and you might miss it. I was on my way to the bathroom, and caught it out of the corner of my eye. It stopped me in my tracks. So evocative and iconic.

Also of note is a movie to be made next year about the Wyeth family.. they're apparently shooting primarily in Maine.

I had the same reaction upon seeing it at MoMA. It is an odd and terrible place for such a work.

Best answer: It's not the prairie; it's a field in Maine.
