We need a place to Nap-a!

Help me plan an eventful couples trip to Napa.
My girlfriend and I (late 20s) will be taking a trip to Napa with another couple in mid July. We've done numerous Santa Barbara County wine events/festivals/excursions but have not yet made it to Napa. We're looking at a 4-5 day trip.
I was hoping you guys could offer suggestions for interesting accommodations. Something like a bed and breakfast or condo/cottage would be excellent if it were not cost prohibitive (not more than $250/night or so for all 4 of us). Having 2 rooms would be good, having a hot tub / living room / game room would be great. Barring that, suggestions for nice hotels are welcome.
I've read this question and this question, but I'd like more specific recommendations on where to stay and what other non-wine things there are to do in the area. We will have a car, so anything within an hour's drive is reasonable. We're reasonably outdoorsy folks, so hikes and such are a possibility. Suggestions need not be exclusively romantic - we're just looking to have a good time.
Lastly, if there's a really good guidebook you'd recommend that has off-the-beaten-path suggestions, that would be great. Personal anecdotes and anything else you have to add about the Napa area are wonderfully welcome.

many would argue that sonoma has better wineries! anyway i don't know about hotels, but my ex lived up there and i've done some fun stuff in the area - two things that leap to mind are balloon trips (you can do those in both napa and sonoma) and rafting on the russian river, which is pretty relaxed (not too many rapids)...
