Are my old windows worth more than I think?

I replaced the windows in my house (built in 1940). I put the set on Craigslist for $25 (for 11 double hung windows and matching storms). They are pine and the glass is in good condition. I thought they would only be useful for random projects. Should I be asking more? I am having a hard time gauging the value. Thanks!

Around here Craigslist is overrun with old windows and they sell cheap. I think $25 is fine.

$25 sounds about right for some windows. If you're the gardening type, you might save them for a small greenhouse. You have just enough for a 3x1 greenhouse which can be great for starting some early greens. You'd just have to make a low, long structure, 1 window wide, 3 windows along the sides, 3 windows laid on the top (to reach in and grab veggies) and voila, old windows become mini-greenhouse.

Most old wood windows end up in the trash unless they're leaded / stained glass. If you can get anything at all for your (presumably plain wood windows) then you should count yourself lucky.

Yeah, I see great old windows by the side of the road, with the trash, all the time.

I suppose it might depend where you live, and how much older building stock there is. In New England they don't seem to be worth much at all because there are still a lot of them and they generally need a fair amount of work to reuse or even to use as decor or as a coldframe.

Response by poster: Thanks for the answers! I have had lots of responses, so I'll take the $25 and be happy that they are out of the garage.
