What to wear to Pacquiao vs. Clottey?

Asking for a friend, she has been invited to her first boxing match, and we have no clue about what kind of clothes she should wear! She's in her mid 20's, apparently it won't be too cold or hot.

Where is this? I would imagine the answer will be quite different if the match is in, say Las Vegas at the MGM, or somewhere in Kentucky at the VFW. (No offense, Kentucky!)

Response by poster: Dallas, Texas. Apparently it's a huge deal.

Best answer: At the matches I've been to, the women have been dressed as if they were going to a nightclub. Especially the 20-somethings.

Same thing you'd wear to any other professional sporting event?

Response by poster: Well, the tickets are about 1000 dollars, so that threw us off, we thought it would require something more bling blingy?

Response by poster: thanks unclejeffy! I think she'll do skinny jeans and a nightclub top. It's a bit embarrassing to meet with such unhelpful replies, because I told her people would be very nice here.

Sounds like you might be ringside. I'd wear something washable, in the likelihood of blood and sweat splatter.

Response by poster: Haha I said that too, found missing! She's not very excited, but the tickets are a present, so oh well.

Best answer: What to wear to a boxing match! My take is: dressier than going to the movies, not as dressy as opera. So...more like as if you were going to a play or out to a nice restaurant.

Best answer: Dressy. For sure.

I think some (but not the majority) of the men will be in suits, and many will be in sport coats with slacks and dress shoes. The younger guys might go in dressy jeans. Nightclubby, as has been mentioned is about right. Older men go dressier, younger men go more flashy. I think that the same holds true for women too.

Best answer: Looking at stubhub, it appears that the $1000 tickets might be well out of the splatter zone. So, perhaps no need for scotchguarding.

Best answer: It seems to be a much bigger event than what I'd wear jeans to. $1000 for tickets? That's major, jeans will be under-dressed.

If she's up for the attention, go for the full-on bar-star glamorous look, with a short skirt, heels (boots?), club top, sparkly jewelry, dramatic makeup and well-done sexy big hair. She can tone that down to whatever level she's comfortable with for going out in public though, what she'd be comfortable with for clubbing. The girls working at this event will be practically dressed in bikinis, for some perspective and reassurance she won't over-do it. But as always, try for classy, not trashy.

Best answer: A cocktail dress that is a little more trashy than classy.

Best answer: I disagree with the people that have said clothing will be very dressy.

I've been to a few UFC and other large MMA events with very good seats and my experience is that anything is acceptable attire. In the first few rows I've seen people wearing everything from shorts and a t-shirt to formal evening wear. The cost of the tickets does not dictate the appropriate clothing because this is a fighting event rather than the ballet, opera, etc. It's also worth noting that people wearing anything remotely dressy will be limited to the first handful of seating rows; the vast majority of the arena will likely be dressed very casually.

For a girl in her 20s, your proposal of jeans and a "going out" top seems perfect, absent other special circumstances.
