Some inexpensive places to eat for young people in St Louis

Could anyone recommend some good places to eat for a group of six college students and two professors in St Louis this weekend? Specific locations inside

I will be taking a group of six college students and another professor on an art tour of St Louis this weekend. I used some terrific other St Louis threads to identify some of the places we will visit, but now I could use some recommendations for place to eat.

We will be staying in the Forest Park area. It would be useful to have some places within walking distance of some of the places listed below, or a central place or street that has lots of options perhaps. Lastly, since these are college students they would like to eat on a budget. Thanks in advance!

Locations :

Museum of Art
Science Center
Contemporary Art Museum St Louis
Craft Alliance
Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts
White Flag Projects (Manchester Avenue)
Missouri Botanical Gardens

The Royale, on Kingshighway. Great food, smoke-free bar. Not driveable as such, but very close to MOBOT.

Just to say you did it, perhaps go to Imo's for st. louis style pizza. THere's one up Oakland from the Science Center.

And if you're going to White Flag, you're *on* manchester, which has all kinds of eateries on it in that area. Unfortunately, nothing specifically cheap springs to mind.

Your definitely need to go to Ted Drewe's for frozen custard.

Seconding Ted Drewes, just as much for the 60s-style aesthetic as for the custard, which is also tasty.

There are two walking neighborhoods near Forest Park, each with many restaurants: one is the Delmar Loop, whose offerings range from extremely cheap (Gyros House, U-City Grill) to sort of pricey (Riddle's Penultimate, Pi). The other is the Central West End, which is on average a little bit more expensive and has one of my favorite hang-out restaurant/bars, Dressel's, as well as a pretty authentic Jewish deli (Kopperman's), sushi, chops, Chinese, bistros, etc. It also has a couple of art galleries (I think there are more than one near Left Bank Books at the corner of Euclid and McPherson), so maybe walking around there could be entertaining for art types (although the caliber of stuff isn't what you'll see at the places you've listed, to be sure).

Forest Park Area, this includes St. Louis Museum of Art, Science Center and your accommodations. You are near the Central West End. CWE- The CWE is very walkable and there are many more places than I'll mention mostly along Euclid Ave.

Pi, for pizza- little more $ than average but very good.
Llywelyn’s Pub - Pub food
Tortillaria, good Mexican food, very good fish tacos
Racanellis, NY Style pizza
The Boathouse at Forest Park, cheap enough good enough and great location.

White Flag and MoBot aren't far from CWE but I'll give you a few more.
I second The Royale, can't go wrong there.
O'Connell's Pub is at Kingshighway and I-44 right near MoBot. Very good burgers, but smokey.
You are near THE HILL. Gioia's Deli for sandwiches.
You are now near South Grand area- South Grand and Arsenal and south. Great Asian places. I like Pho Grand, King and I and Lemon Grass. All very cheap.

Midtown is where you find Contemporary Art Museum St Louis and Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts.
Pappys for BBQ, no questions, if you're eating BBQ you're eating it here.

Since you're going for art I would be remiss if I didn't recommend the Basilica for their mosaics and the City Museum for the insanity.

Response by poster: Good43, we are going to City Museum, as well, but I didn't list it because I assumed we would eat there. I actually just had a priest recommend that I visit the St Louis cathedrals, so we may check out Basilica, particularly if we can't get in anywhere Sunday evening... Thanks to everyone for what sounds like an extremely helpful list! I would be happy to take additional suggestions as well.

Al-Tarboush on the Delmar Loop has a very tasty assortment of Middle Eastern foods.

By MOBOT you could go to a great Thai restaurant, The King and I.
