How can I keep Microsoft Communicator (2007) from showing me as inactive or idle?

Ideally I would like to log in and then have it show me just as either "Available" or "Busy" for long stretches of time without showing me as "Available:Inactive" or "Busy:Inactive". I do not have access to my registry, by the way. There's a legitimate reason and logic for this, but I am asking anonymously because I don't want to be viewed as a slacker.

Are there applications that will prevent me from going inactive? If they keep my machine from logging me out a the same time, then bonus points.

(My specs/situation: XP, new-ish company laptop (HP), can install programs onto the C: Drive)

Well I don't have that program, but google found this:

In the Status area, in the Show me as Away when my computer has been idle for this time period box, click a time from 5 minutes to 1 hour.

Which implies you can't set the "idle" time higher than an hour, or disable it. Annoying.

The only other thing I can think of is to install some program that does something innocuous on a schedule, every 50 minutes or so, to make it appear you're using there using the computer. I don't know a program offhand, but I bet someone does.

Or you could take the Homer Simpson route and have the "drinking bird" tap on your spacebar. I'm kidding a bit, but you might actually be able to rig up a mechanical gizmo to tap on the spacebar if you're so inclined.

Caffeine does what drjimmy11 suggests.

Communicator allows you to set a note against your status. Would that help? Something like "I am currently using another computer, so may appear Away for extended periods" (or something suitably vague about what you're actually doing)

Click the status dropdown and click "Set Note..."

A D battery on the spacebar.
