Does anyone know a good example of a 1940's italian romance movie?

Not too familiar with italian cinema, but i have to write a paper for major film movements and i was thinking that the prostitute vignette in Rosellini's paisa may be (to a certain point) emulating italian (or maybe even american) romance films in order to have a better effect at the end of the vignette (when there is no happily ever after). I asked my prof about this topic and she seemed to think it was a good idea, but didn't have, and has yet, to make any suggestions for the other films. I really need to watch something soon. I was hoping to use the fact that flashback isn't really a neo-realist device and the mise en scene and cinematography are similar to a non-neo-realist picture to back my thesis.
Maybe this idea is totally wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know a lot of 1940s romance movies, but I have pretty much no idea what you're talking about.

Do you just wanna say what kind of movie suggestions you're looking for? "Italian or maybe even American romance films" is a pretty broad genre.

My knowledge of Italian cinema picks up with the neo-realist films so I can't really help you there but (noting that you're at UT) Prof. Biow in the Italian Department may. I watched Paisa in his Italian Cinema class. He's very well-informed and friendly - was always more than willing to chat with me outside of class.
