Blood Meridian In Reality

Looking for some war books for my Dad's birthday. American theater only.

My Dad has shown a big interest in reading about wars in the American Theater. I recommended Blood Meridian, and he loved it, but it was difficult for him to read.

What books about real life wars can I buy him?. The Civil War has been done to death, but he may be interested in that if there were phenomenal new pictures, or stories no one had really heard of before.

I think he's looking for real life accounts of old Indian wars or, to my mind, things like the Whiskey Rebellion or the French and Indian war. Old, old wars that no one remembers anymore, and he doesn't even know existed.

Dad's got some bad eyes now, so things that are picture heavy or are largish books, you know, the 15"x15" ones are preferable.

Anyone have suggestions?

Max Boot's The Savage Wars of Peace probably qualifies for covering "old wars that no one remembers anymore." I bought this for my wife's late grandfather (himself a WWII vet who loved to read war and history books), and he enjoyed it a lot.

Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides was a great read. Strongly recommended.
