Where do Japanese people go to eat Japanese food in Dallas?

The husband and I are looking for something authentic - not so much interested in slick sushi-fusion places. Can anybody recommend a restaurant in the DFW area?

Best answer: I don't have anything specifically useful to tell you, but I will point you to the Dallas (and the old Texas) board at chowhound.com. You should find some fairly inside recommendations there.

I worked with a large number of Japanese engineers in Las Colinas/Irving. Guys who were in the states doing a 4-year rotation before heading back to Japan.

There is a sushi place on MacArthur on the east side of the road before you get to 114 - it's closer to the LBJ end...and all of them preferred that place over all others. I wish I could remember the name, but there can't be that many sushi places in that small an area. It was in a strip center.

I have a friend with a Japanese wife and they have recommended Sushi Awaji (with several locations). But if you want to find somewhere where you are guaranteed to be out of place, try anything around the Super H Mart at George Bush and Old Denton Rd in Carollton.

When we go to Teppo, my wife and I have frequently been the only Anglos in the place. It's still a bit slick (not overly so, though), so it may not work for you, but the food is awesome and authentic.
