ePub resources.

I'm looking for educational ePub books.

I'm aware of sites like feedbooks and project gutenberg, but I find that they tend to have public domain resources, which can be impenetrable. I'd like to find books that are written for a more modern mindset and for people who may not be familiar with a particular topic.

For starters you can use software like Calibre to convert ebooks of various formats to ePub.

Do the books need to be free? Generally speaking O'Reilly's ebooks come in multiple formats, including ePub. The subject matter runs to the technical, but it's definitely educational.

Response by poster: I don't really care if they're free -- I don't mind paying for quality.

The University of Chicago Press publishes e-book editions of many of their titles.

I'm don't think the University of Chicago Press ebooks are epub. From their site:
"You can download e-books directly to your computer or handheld device and read them using free Digital Editions software from Adobe"

boo_radley, are you interested in ebooks in general, or just those in the ePub format?

to clarify my previous post, Digital Editions is based upon the open epub standard, but seems to add a layer of proprietary DRM

Response by poster: I really prefer ePubs or other open formats, but I'm open to ideas.

This came about because I'm taking a statistics class at a local college, and their "e-book" is a series of password-protected, time-bombed flash files. There have to be more portable, more open ebooks somewhere.

Use Google books and search on Full View Only. Download as text or as PDF and convert it.

You will find with certain topics that it does not matter if the book is old because the basics remain the same. And if you look through all the results you will find examples of entry-level books in which the presentation of these basics is very straightforward and at times even attractive.
