What are the places in NYC (all boroughs) where you are released from the subway into a building without having to go outside? Such as the B train to the Museum of Natural History.

Best answer: There are a whole lot of these, are you looking for things that will take you to places you'd actually want to go? I know my wife used to take (I think the 1 to South Ferry) and she'd be in her building without going outside (Goldman Sachs), but I don't think there's much to see in there. Another example:
47th-50th BDFV can take you to any Rockefeller Center building

Best answer: 6 train - Astor Place - Kmart

Do Grand Central and Penn Station count?

Best answer: Herald Square stop (BDVF as well as the NQRW via a short tunnel) have a subterranean entrance to JCPenny/Manhattan Mall.

My personal favorite is the 2/3 exit at Fulton Street only open on weekdays that lets you off in some weird dingy basement walkway a couple doors down from what used to be the Strand Annex.

You can also get directly to the Chrysler Building from Grand Central.

Best answer: You can exit the 456 at the Chrysler Building, and, I think, the building across 42nd where Cipriani is, and in each case I think you go right into the building lobby.

Also, Bloomingdale's has an entrance to the 456.

It's been a few years, but I'm pretty sure that the Borough Hall (4/5) station has an exit directly into the lobby of the building for which it is named.

Best answer: Atlantic Avenue-Pacific Street - You can enter the mall above.

Does Times Square count? You can walk right into Port Authority from the A line portion, and you can exit out of the 42nd St. Duane Reade directly into the station.

Atlantic Avenue-Pacific Street - You can enter the mall above.

How?? I've always only been able to go into the LIRR station.

You can enter the CitiBank building in LIC directly from the E/V at 23rd & Ely stop.

They just revamped the LIRR station, actually -- there's now a short corridor that connects the B/Q platform to a bright, shiny new ticketing and waiting area at the north end of the Atlantic Center. (Follow signs to exit at the "Hanson Place" end of the platform, go up a flight of stairs and then an escalator, take a left)

Oh, and the Clark Street station on the 2/3 in Brooklyn lets you off in the Hotel St. George, though I don't know what good that would do you these days.

The 23rd/Ely stop lets you out into the Citigroup building during certain times of the day (or at least it used to).

One exit from the 2/3 trains at Wall Street will take you into the atrium of 60 Wall Street.

I believe you can get into Hunter College directly from the 6 at 68th St.

This app might help.

Just seconding the rec for ExitStrategy -- I was really excited when I first bought it, and have since used it FAR more than I'd expected to. Provided you're sufficiently familiar with the city to understand what exit labels like "Grand Central Main Concourse" mean, the platform diagrams and neighborhood maps should help you in situations like this one. (Although it's worth mentioning that while the precise locations of exits are given, there are no failsafe indicators of indoor vs. outdoor exits.)

You can also connect underground from the N/R/W stop at 49th Street (uptown only) with Rockefeller center and the BDFV. It's not a free transfer, but it's dry and open during business hours.

Also, the Ditmars stop on the N/W connects to a couple of businesses (comics store, yoga studio, internet cafe...not sure what else) without needing to go outside.

At the 34th Street Herald Square stop, you can go directly into a number of buildings including JC Penney's (Manhattan Mall) and the Burger King inside the Macy's building (but not Macy's itself—at least not at the entrance I'm thinking of).

The 14th St ACE stop has one entrance that will put you into entrance lobby of the building on the SW corner of 16th and 8th Ave where Google has all of its servers.

I think the E stop @ 53rd and lex lets out into the (citigroup?) building above.

Yep, and another exit takes you into the lower level of the Chase Manhattan building.

There are a couple of small businesses (old-school barber, cobbler, newsstand, a sushi joint, and a deli in the subway station access.

The 59 St./Lexington Ave. station on the 4/5/6 and N/R/W has access into Bloomingdale's.

What it has is an exit directly into the nearby Municipal Building, which has been sealed off for security reasons for the past decade and a half.
