Off the top of my head: Modernseed which is cool if a bit pricey, Little Paper Planes for babysuits. The New York Times Magazine had a whole issue devoted to the design of childhood; it is a bit annoying but has articles on clothing, furniture, childhood activity engineering, toys, food, etc. What does groovy mean?

We get a lot of kid's clothes at Hanna Anderson.

Back to Basics Tous is just what it says.

Do not buy ANY stuffed animals. You will receive at least three billion of them as gifts and your kid won't do anything more than drool or chew on them for at least a year and a half.

Once you find a place (or places) you like, REGISTER! You have no idea how many relatives you have until they start sending things for the baby. Make sure they send you what you want/need.

Old Navy actually does pretty well in the cute baby clothes department. Close second is Baby Gap.

I am not a parent, but most of my friends look for used baby clothes. There are swap shops likeBaby Place, and twice around the bin, and items on E-bay. I know it sounds cold, but baby clothes are damn expensive, and they out grow things before they wear-out.

Registering is a good idea. Most people really don't know what to buy, but they know parents could use a hand. If you don't direct them, friends will give you a thousand frilly things that your child will never wear except for a camera.

I don't have a kid, but I found this site when a friend pointed it out to me when shopping for her kid. They are the cutest shoes, and they get serious coolness points for the business name.

Kid Brother has some pretty cool clothes for boys. I picked a few pieces of clothing at the One of a Kind show in Toronto for a nephew's x-mas gift, and his parents just love them.

Thrift shops. No, I'm serious. Every time I go to one I'm amazed at the great kid and baby clothes I see there - Gap, Osh Kosh, all those name brands. Babies grow so quickly that the clothes are in great shape and still in style. And you can soon save hundreds of dollars.
