How do I become a tourny level MW2 player?

Two related questions:

1) I've gotten to the point in COD: MW2 where I think I need to be in a clan to continue getting better at the game. I'm quite proficient, nearly always scoring in the top third of any Team Deathmatch. I favor the UMP45, but have recently started developing my skills with the M16 and M4A1. My progress seems to have stagnated: how do I continue to improve?

2) How do I find a good, dedicated clan with whom I can practice regularly and begin to compete against other clans with?

When you see an enemy, always hit aim, it allows you to focus really quickly.

I always find to improve or boost my skills try switching up weapons or classes. Its easy to become an amazing player when you use the same weapon and class every game, I used to be like that in the original Modern Warfare. The M4 and M16 are a good start, give the Tar21 a try too.

If you are using the stopping power perk, then stop. Too many people use it as a crutch, learn to be unstoppable with cold blooded pro or something else on, then if you go back to stopping power you will be even better. Also pick a gun your not great with and use it for a few days, this will hurt your K/D in the short term but I normally discover some amazing weapon and perk combo doing this I would have never thought of.

I'm where you are; my gameplay is pretty good, but I often end up on teams that don't know how to play as a team. Mostly these days when I lose it seems like that's the problem. PM me and let's swap gamertags.

I looked online for clans and didn't find much, really.

Honestly, if you are looking for a competitive team based shooter then COD:MW2 is not going to be it. The architecture of the game by it's nature precludes many of the options necessary for high level competition.

That being said COD forums.

IAAMW2PBNAGO (I am a Modern Warfare 2 player but not a good one), despite that, my advice (and what's been helping me) is to use guns that you're the worst at. Use guns with worse accuracy, use pistols, whatever. Essentially make the game harder for yourself and get better, then when you go back to the better guns, you should have improved.
