I'd like to have some custom action figures made, and then mass-produced on a smallish scale....

Google turned up links for companies that will make a likeness of me for $500. What I'm looking for is something like this, sort of.

Anyone have experience commissioning these, procuring an artist, etc? Have an idea of the cost? Know where I can get it done?

But it looks cool! Looks like it's basically custom heads on top of a 12" Action figure. But that may be all you need? And the more you buy the cheaper it gets...but initially this will cost some bucks.

hah! No, don't worry, mudpuppie — I don't think agregoli was looking for production as well, so I wasn't making a "double" complaint at all. It is kind of funny though... What are the chances? Great minds.

DO NOT USE ANDGOR. They are notorious in the action figure collecting community.

Look at their unsatisfactory Better Business Bureau rating. They are also under investigation by the Florida Attorney General's office for non-delivery of product. They have a long and sordid history.

Talk to the Mold-A-Rama people. They'll make custom molds then lease (or sell) you the machine so you can watch them get done right in front of you -- or set up the machine where anyone can drop a quarter and get an action figure. (Link from MeFe)
