I have to reinstall the sound card drivers on my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop every time I reboot.

Having sound card/driver issues. MI

My two month old Dell Inspiron 9100 (laptop) is making me cry! Every time I reboot, there's no sound, forcing me to reinstall the sound card drivers. I really don't want to send it back and can't seem to find answers online (dell.com) so I was hoping someone here had suggestions.

Thanks, in advance!

Release Title Audio: SIGMATEL STAC 9750 AC97, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.5.10.0.3952, A15
Release Date 01/18/2005
Category Audio Drivers

...on Dell support website. Have you tried this new driver? Might help. As it was just released three days ago you may not have downloaded it yet... I've had sporadic problems with my own laptop, things like external volume controls and special hotkeys not working correctly. Generally reinstalling the original drivers doesn't always work, so I start by looking at the manufacturer's website to see if there's anything newer. Give this one a shot, check back here for more potential answers if it doesn't help.

Oh snaps! New driver, well alright! I haven't been there in a few. Thanks for that. I'll let you know.

Well that didn't work. Still no sound at start up and re-install of the new driver won't work either. Only works with the old driver. So now I'm guessing bad sound card or conflict? I'm not tech savy, but if pointed in the right direction, am usualy a good study. Please direct me!

Check Device Manager (Control Panel->System or right-click on My Computer and go to Properties...in either case then it's the Hardware tab followed by the Device Manager button) for conflicts...yellow exclamation points or question marks, red Xs, that sort of thing.

When did this start? Ever since you've had the laptop, or sometime since then?
