I need a rug that ties the room together. Fuckin' A!

Super shoppers of MeFi, I need a rug that will go with this painting.

I'm renovating and decorating one of the bedrooms in my house. It is a small room that will be my guest bedroom. The room will be painted cream. The floor will be honey oak. The duvet and the bedskirt, which I made years ago, are of dark olive green jacquard with a narrow ivory ribbon trim. The curtains are ivory with a wavy/irregular lighter green and yellow stripe. I'm going to partially upholster the headboard in the green and yellow striped fabric as well. I've knitted a cranberry-coloured afghan which will lie across the foot of the bed. The frame of the headboard, the vanity table, the vanity table chair (which are all pieces I snagged from various people's curbs) are going to be finished in a "mission oak" stain, which is sort of a darker oak.

I also have a chest of drawers that was left behind by the previous owner and which I am going to refinish and stain mission oak, but the chest of drawers will also have a poster découpaged on its front, one "slice" of the poster to each drawer. The poster is of course, one of Paul Ranson's "Apple Tree with Red Fruit". Now I just need a rug to finish tying the room together. I've been looking and haven't found anything that's any better than adequate.

So, knowing what super shoppers you people are in the aggregate, I turn to you. I am looking for a rug in the lime and olive green, yellow and cranberry colours I've used in the guest room. The rug shouldn't be any bigger than 4 x 6', and I'm hoping to pay less than $200, though I could go higher for a truly special rug. Any company you suggest must ship to Canada. Suggestions?

I like this rug. It's darker than you suggest, but there is dark brown in the painting, and alot of light colors in the room that might benefit from some contrast.

solid color rug would be best..and for texture and interest you might consider shag.

Whew, that's quite a colour mix! (with the greens, reds and yellow). I would caution that any rug that incorporates all those colours might make the room look excessively 'busy'. naplesyellow suggestion for a solid colour is on the money, in my opinion. That being said, I did a quick search for Canadian based rug sellers and I found a few that may be in your price range. Home Depot has this one from Lanart Rugs (a Montreal Rug outfitter) for $169.00 in the 4' x 6' size. You can also try Selectrugs Canada. They have a pretty robustsearch engine. I punched in your colours and I came up with this one and this one among many others. Good luck in your hunt and, may the Dude abide.

I'd go with a solid color, or a more subtle pattern. This one would be nice in any of the three colors, or this in the "Lemon" color might work. I would go with a neutral, though, perhaps with a cranberry border, like this one in "Multi". The cranberry will balance with the large amount of green you have going in the bedding and keep from letting all of the orange and gold tones of the wood be overhwelming.

Something with at least one of the warm colors in the painting---it doesn't have to exactly match.

Best answer: I bought this rug from the Pottery Barn last Friday night. I am not sure it will go but I have 30 days to return it, so I'm going to try to get the room relatively together before I decide.

Response by poster: I am going to keep the Pottery Barn rug. I have, however, replaced the yellow and green striped material, since it didn't seem to go with the duvet cover. I've bought a textured red for my curtains and a red, green and yellow striped fabric for the headboard upholstery and chair seats. I think the room should work now. Will post pictures when it's all done.
