Cocktailfilter. I like the salty ones, which means either Bloody Mary, preferably substituting the vodka with sherry; or the magnificent Bullshot. What else is there? posted by magullo to (13 comments total)

Have you ever had a Bloody Caesar? Similar to Mary, but ... meatier? I prefer to serve it warm, even. posted by splice at 3:33 PM on January 18, 2005

I love me my over-hard Gibsons.
1 1/2 oz Gin
3/4 oz Vermouth
2 Cocktail onion
splice ah, good old Canadian Clamato. Love that stuff. posted by PurplePorpoise at 3:43 PM on January 18, 2005

Some more variations on the Bloody Mary/Bullshot: a Bloody Maria (made with tequila instead of vodka), a Danish Mary (made with Aquavit), and the Bloody Bull (half beef broth, half Bloody Mary mix). Also, if I recall correctly from my bartending days, I believe the Bloody Mary was originally made with gin instead of vodka. posted by scody at 3:59 PM on January 18, 2005

Hell, how about salted beer? I know of people who swear by it, and while it doesn't really fit the description of a cocktail, hey, it's salted, and it's alcoholic.
If you like the whole tomato/spicy aspect, how about a prairie fire? You could probably add salt. Although, this would be a shot more than a cocktail. Adaptable somehow, I'm sure, after much experimentation :).
And PurplePorpoise, clamato is indeed great. I have it near everyday, in fact. Homer was definitely on to something with the clam juice... posted by splice at 6:15 PM on January 18, 2005
How about a Dirty Martini? Basically it's a martinit with olive juice shaken into it. VERY salty. And VERY good. posted by spicynuts at 6:58 PM on January 18, 2005
When I can buy imported tomato juice (the Korean version is sickeningly sweet with added sugar) I often drink my beer with salt, pepper and tomato juice.
Koreans think I'm insane, but I also love to grab a slice of kimchi, swirl it in some beer, eat the kimchi, drink the beer. Mmmm, doggies!
Hmmm... I sometimes drink the same beer - tomato stuff Stavros drinks... it is quite good when you have a hangover. posted by zaelic at 11:35 AM on January 19, 2005
