What kind of bug is this?

This is in central New Jersey, in a home that's fairly close to a canal if that's relevant. The bug is a little over a half inch long, and he's pretty flat.

Response by poster: Yep, that's it! Evidently they've only been in this area since 1996, which explains why I don't remember ever seeing them when I was growing up.

I live in PA and I see them all over the place. They are probably the stupidest bugs I have ever seen, performing amusing kamikaze missions into various death traps.

Yeah, these are all over northwest Philly, all the old 19th century houses are crawling with them. I still can't figure out how they get in, though.

Visiting my sister in central NJ earlier this year, I took apart their bathroom exhaust fan in an effort to fix a noise that it was making and generally improve its performance. Full of stink bugs.
