What is the best James Bond movie?

I want to watch some escapist, non-xmas adventure-fun and will be glad of pointers to choosing the best of this long series. Thanks.

Goldfinger.

The one with Max Zorin. It's ace!

A View to a Kill. Loads of fun and cool actors.

I can't say for sure, but I'm willing to bet it has Sean Connery in the lead role.

Live and Let Die. You cannot beat those swamp boat chase scenes. Also, I'm oddly fond of the theme.

Oh and its: "The name is Bond, James Bond."

Live and Let Die is also amazing. I agree.

Top 3 Bond films:

Goldfinger.
Dr. No.
2006 Casino Royale

Note: any disagreement on above is simple human error.

This reminds me of "What bear is best?" from the office.

It depends on your mood for Bond movies.

If you want traditional 'cool' go for a Connery. If you're with mates and want a laugh, Moore is superior.

Give Lazenby a swerve.

For a more violent and darker Bond, Dalton is good but he's beaten hands down by Craig.

I normally get killed for saying this, but Timothy Dalton was the best Bond. Connery was too uncouth, Roger Moore too camp, George Lazenby too wooden. Daniel Craig is too Bourne-ish and Pierce Brosnan always looked like he was more worried about his hair falling out of place than killing baddies.

In summary: The Living Daylights.

The best stunt award goes to the car twist over the broken bridge in The Man with the Golden Gun.

The best baddie award goes to Goldfinger with an honourable mention for Blofeld.

The best henchman goes to Oddjob, narrowly pipping Jaws.

The special award for most innuendo in a single film goes to Octopussy.

The best Bond beauty award goes, by a country mile, to Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder.

Everyone will tell you that its a Connery bond. But really, both Daniel Craig films -- Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace -- are in my top 5.

Go ahead, call me a heretic.

Heretic. Casino Royale is justly lauded, but Quantum of Solace is a CGI action montage in dire need of a plot, IMHO.

This is total chatfilter. But the answer is You Only Live Twice. That or Goldfinger.

Thunderball was the best one before the series turned campy.

Goldfinger, Live and Let Die and the The Man with the Golden Gun are among my favorites as well.

I'm going to go way over on the heretic side and say that I also really like Goldeneye.

Dr. No (1962) is the first Bond film and the best one.
