NYC Real Estate Resources for Building History, Market Listings?

More NYC real estate: I am in the early stages of finding a building to purchase in NYC. Besides Foxtons, can anyone serve up some nice resources, online or otherwise? [more indoors+]
I'm in the early stages of finding a place for a relative. I'm handling the ground work, with the incentive that I will have a greatly reduced rent in said building. Though quite the real estate neophyte, I know more than your average bear about buildings and construction. I prefer to work at my own pace, and get nerved out by agents "presenting" sales. General resources for building history, market listings, etc.. would be greatly appreciated.

Craigslist NY is reportedly very active with real estate postings...

As commercial brokers, we specialize in the sales of (many) apartment buildings (In Southern California, though). My recommendation to you: Drop the idea. This is not a game for non-professionals. You have to study the economics, and many other variables very carefully. Very few owners of single buildings have a clue, and most lose money, even if they think that they buy low, and will sell high.

This previous AskMe might help you.
And growabrain--not to be argumentative (honestly) but isn't that response what all brokers are supposed to say?
