Does anyone know the make and model of the green(ish) two-door car driven by Shelley Duvall's uncle in the Robert Altman film Nashville? I just watched the film again and that car was stuck in my mind the entire time. Do you happen to know this particular vehicle from within a film full of great looking cars?

Got any screen caps of it? Can you post one or two?

Here are a couple of grabs. Sorry it's not a great look at it.
Thanks for the help.

Looks a little like a corvair, maybe?

Nope, not a Corvair. Not sporty looking enough. Maybe a 1960s Nash Rambler?

I'm sorry, *American* Rambler. This isn't exactly the same, but seems awfully close:

NoMich...
You did it! 63 American Rambler. This page shows it pretty clearly.

Thanks a million. This would have poisoned my mind for weeks without your help.

Do you have any experience with these cars? I'm looking for a project car to work with (currently a toss-up between a 74 Bronco or an as yet undetermined vintage of Ford Falcon), and this Rambler really strikes me for some reason.

Thanks again.

Beware, push-button gear changes. Surely this must be a repair nightmare (what do I know?).

My old granny drove one of those for years, and it was a green one, too. It was the first American car with a front seat that reclined.

I can't remember what happened to that car, but it wasn't passed to anyone else in the family, like many others were. Funny, you say this photo is a 1962 Rambler. It looks older (in style) than the one my granny drove, and hers was definitly older than '62 (although maybe only just).

I do not have any experience with Nash/AMC. I have a feeling that they are sort of like British motorcycles. They look cool, but you're going to be working on them all of the time.
If you know how to work on cars and know of a good parts supplier*, then go for it. Otherwise, you may be kicking the car a lot.

* - probably the most important aspect of owning an old Nash/AMC. I can't imagine parts being all that abundant.

I'd go with the Falcon or the Bronco, just more common cars and probably easier to find parts for. The Falcon may even share parts with early Mustangs which I'm sure still has a huge after-market following.
