Why can't I ever see Quicktime using Firefox??? posted by protocool to (9 comments total)
Can we assume that you've installed QuickTime? And that embedded QuickTime movies play correctly in IE (or Opera or Safari or Konqueror...)? posted by lodurr at 2:29 PM on January 13, 2005
It would also be nice to know what platform you're on. posted by zerolives at 2:41 PM on January 13, 2005
it comes with media player classic which plays pretty much everything without trouble, except for ogm and mkv (additional codecs for them). posted by EvilKenji at 3:39 PM on January 13, 2005
I don't know this to be true, but I would suspect that if you installed Quicktime before Firefox, Quicktime wouldn't know that Firefox existed, and therefore the plug-in or whatever wouldn't be installed for Firefox. posted by hootch at 5:04 PM on January 13, 2005
On my Win2K systems, QuickTime works fine even though installed (long) before FireFox. However, as with all things Win, YMMV, and a new QT install would most likely fix it.
Cannot say what would happen on Mac or XP. But again, I would expect a new QT install to fix the problem. posted by lodurr at 8:35 PM on January 13, 2005
I have installed and unistalled a few times. This had been an issue on winxp since the beginning. Never any use. posted by protocool at 9:19 PM on January 13, 2005
There's an extension, MediaPlayerConnectivity, which allows you to assign a different program to view embedded media. For instance, you can download the mpc player that EvilKenji linked to and then configure this extension to play quicktime using that program. posted by sic at 1:31 AM on January 14, 2005
