Obscure movie ... no one I've talked to has ever recalled this, but I swear it exists.

When I was child (in the early 80s), on of my favorite movies was this animated movie about a Joey (a baby kangaroo) who was separated from his mother during a war. He had a few friends ... a wallaby that rolled around in a watermelon and a koala. At the end of the movie, he finds his mother, and apparently I would always cry, so my mom stopped allowing me to watch it.

I have no clue what it's called. Does this sound even vaguely familiar to anyone?

Was it animated characters over real-world background? If it was, I don't know the name, but I sort of remember it too. I think there was a platypus sequence that freaked me out.

Did the mother find Joey with the help of a little girl? Because I think I vaguely remember this movie. Not the title, which would be helpful though. Sorry.

Yes, sort of animated over real-world background. I think I remember that the war looked *real.*

I didn't remember a little girl off-hand, but that could definitely be part of it.

are you sure it was a movie? because there was a Saturday Morning cartoon called Kwickie Koala that sounds like it might be what you were watching.

All I can remember of the movie is being scared of the Bunyip. No story, no characters, not even what the Bunyip looked like. Just that there was something scary in it and I remember the word bunyip.
