Identity check. Which character actor does this portrait remind you of? The man I have in my head but whose name I can't remember tends to play asshole lawyers or accountants. Oh and it's not Richard Jenkins.

I was going to say Vincent Schiavelli, but he's not usually a jerky lawyer. But then I found this list and thought it might be James Cromwell. Read the list for a pic of each one.

Sorry, of course the correct spelling is "Mark" and Mr. Metcalf's filmography is here. He was recently seen behind a table in a suit in Mad Men as the head of the city council.

I don't know if it is Colm Feore the OP is thinking of but it was him I had in my mind when I saw the portrait and I could not put a name to the face so thanks tzuzie for putting me out of my misery.
