I'm going as the sky. What is a good complimentary costume for my friend?

YetAnotherHalloweenCostumeFilter: I'm going as the sky. What is a good complimentary costume for my friend? (Yes I checked the archives.)

So somewhere on the green, someone had the great idea of a sky costume. I hope this person doesn't mind that I'm running with this, and whoever you are, if you see this, thank you!

Anyway, I'm trying to think of fun, unexpected coordinating costume ideas for my friend. So far we've come up with one idea, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," but I think we could do better.

Relevant information: I am a she, he is a he.

Thanks!

The Earth? The Ocean? The Sun? A bird? The Moon? An airplane? A hot-air balloon, with or without small child?

The songs "It's Raining Men" and Ellis Paul's "Take All the Sky You Need" are running through my mind, if that helps...ahmm..at all.

A Cloud... perhaps an ominous grey thundercloud (with lightning bolt) from one side and a fluffy white cumulus (with flying geese) from the other. The geese/bolt could be a single prop.

I vote going as the ocean. Have them wear a bunch of reflective surfaces so that they reflect your costume. If you get the angle right you might be able to get a photo where they look almost all blue.

He could dress as Maxfield Parrish (he's known for his beautiful sky paintings) in early 20th century garb, carrying an over-sized exaggerated paintbrush.
Sorry I keep popping back in, but I really like this thread!

Partly cloudy with a chance of rain. Grey clothing, yellow wig or sun face, sewed on cotton balls or fluff. Squirt gun. Though, this might eclipse your outfit. I kind of like the telescope idea/ he could be an astronomer - think of something clever that could be "seen" with the telescope.

Your friend could go as the Gentleman from Magritte's Son of Man painting.

Here are some examples of this costume's marvelous execution:
Apple!
Apple!
Apple!
Apple!

If he agrees, he could also be cheeky by standing around the Apple Bobbing tub, boasting of his superior apple-bobbing abilities.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but it will bother me all night if I don't ask: how exactly do you dress up as the sky? What... do you wear?

Sounds pretty damned cool and the possibilities of your friend's outfit are endless.

China! As in everything under heaven! Possibly too abstract, but it could work.

Or, Cloud 9. Same as above clouds, just wrap him in sheets of cotton (like the cotton balls, but in sheet form), and hang a number nine around his neck.

Balloon Boy

Hooray! I'm the one who wrote about my sky costume. So glad you like the idea!

I think the obvious answer is to go as a Jiffy Pop-style balloon, and there's no shame in that, but there are going to be a billion Balloon Boys...but perhaps that'll cut down on the Michael Jacksons, Don Drapers, Joan Holloways, and hermaphrodite Lady Gagas, of which there'll also be a boatload this year.

I especially like the idea of the Earth, the ocean, or the sun. Those seem the most appropriately complimentary to go with the sky.

I think the sun could be a manageable getup, done literally or conceptually. Literally you could build something like the Kellogg's Raisin Bran sun, Sunny. One year a friend and I did conceptual sun and moon costumes together. I was the sun and wore a gold glitter jumpsuit, hair curled, sprayed yellow/gold, with some artistic yellow/gold/black designs on my face. For a guy, you could start with putting him in a yellow afro wig.

Earth could start with something the same shape as an M&M costume. Sew it in blue felt and glue on your continents in green felt.

Ocean could be a blue outfit with toy ships attached here and there. Maybe some wave shapes painted on with fabric paint? Some blue & white hairspray for good measure.

Have fun with it! Hope you have a great time.

My version includes sky blue strappy dress, toy plane attached to hair, large bird earrings, several colorful helium-filled balloons, and perhaps a face-painted rainbow!

And thanks again, Jocelmeow! Your costume looked great!
