Some Symbol!

What is this symbol on my old early 20th-century pin?

I have what is either a lapel pin or a cufflink that looks like this:

Can anyone provide a clue as to what the symbol is? Maybe what group it came from? The only hints I have are that it came from central Illinois and appears to be from the early 20th century. There are no other engravings or markings on it.

Is it some kind of a union pin, maybe?

You might want to post an inquiry with a pin collector's group, such as this one. (I'm not familiar with any of them; I just picked that one out of my search results.) Ebay also has forums and groups and might be a good source
