Question: NYC Weekday Church

I want to find a church in New York City that has services on days other than Sunday.

I work all day Sunday, so services on Sunday morning and night are out of the quesetion. Some specifics: I'm looking for a Protestant church service (not a worship service or a prayer service; an actual real service like they would do on Sunday). I grew up more contemporary than traditional, but I can do traditional too. I'm not too comfortable with charismatic stuff. Midtown Manhattan/UES/West Queens preferred.

Episcopal churches often have weekday services, though they tend to be sparse, without music or a sermon. Catholic churches tend to have daily mass as well.

I don't have specifics, since I don't live in NYC, but have you tried going to Mapquest and searching for "places of worship" around where you live? Most churches that are urban and large enough to have services on weekdays will have web sites with their schedules, and you should be able to Google those once you know what churches are in the area... I'm thinking that your best bet, if you're looking for a traditional protestant service, would be a nondenominational evangelical church.

Episcopal churches I know and like:

The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine has a Eucharist service on Saturdays at 12:15 (I know you said Upper East Side, but the 1/9 stops right across the street from St. John the Divine).

The Church of the Good Shepherd has a Eucharist service on Wednesdays at 12:15.

The Church of the Holy Trinity has a Eucharist service on Tuesdays at 8:45 a.m.

You might also try the United Methodist Church's "Find-a-Church" page or the United Church of Christ New York Conference page.

I've heard good things about Redeemer, but all of their services appear to be on Sunday. You could give them a call (212.808.4460) and see if they have any recommendations for you and your situation.

There's also a parachurch group for NYC creatives called The Haven. They might be able to steer you towards something nourishing.

Oh, and the Collegiate Churches of New York have a website, too.

Quite a few churches advertise their schedules of services in the New York Times as well.

The First Presbyterian Church has a Wednesday night Vespers service; for more Presbyterian contacts, you might check out the Presbytery of New York City web page.
