Things to do on Halloween in NYC?

My boyfriend and I are looking for fun stuff to do in NYC/Brooklyn on Halloween (other than the parade) which isn't just going to a bar/club and getting trashed. Know of any cool parties, movie screenings, etc that aren't too expensive? Thanks!

In my neighborhood of Clinton Hill, the residents in one townhouse have been setting up an annual Halloween display, complete with music acts on the lawn. It's always a pretty big draw for local residents. they've also started closing the surrounding blocks to car traffic so kids can go wild trick-or-treating in safety; I went out to just wander around last year and saw tons of tiny Spidermen and cows and fairy princesses and butterflies running around and it was adorable.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society and O'Death are putting on a show that is bound to be ass-kicking, if you're into that sort of stuff. And by "that sort of stuff" I mean melodic folk-soul-punk-cabaret.

They show Nosferatu with pipe organ accompaniment followed by a theater company dressed up in fancy costumes walking down the aisle at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine up by Columbia. It's really cool.

The Park Slope Halloween parade in Brooklyn is a fun family-friendly low-key event where you get to see lots of cute kids and great costumes. Very unlike the Village one.
