Where to find an affordable dresser in Columbus Ohio?

I'm looking for a dresser to fill out my bedroom furniture. The problem is, I don't have a thousand or more dollars to spend. Where should I look around Columbus Ohio?

I know all about Ikea, but I'm looking for other suggestions. I have limited funds, but I'm willing to look around. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If I were you I'd start checking secondhand & furniture consignment stores. I'm not familiar at all with Columbus but it seems like the kind of place that ought to have dozens of them. Not everything's going to be beat-up Goodwill junk. Whatever your design ethic is, there must be something out there for you at an affordable price, and chances are it'll be better made than your average MDF/veneer Ikea stuff.

What about Kittles? I think their stuff is nicer than Ikea, but not over a grand for a dresser. There's one at Easton and one at Tuttle Crossing.

Craigslist. One, two, three.

There are plenty others, those a just a selection.

You should check Flower Child in the short north, also Boomerang Room and the Antique Mall across the street in Clintonville on High Street. We've purchased very well priced vintage furniture at all of those shops.

Good luck!

oh, also Craigslist :-p

Estate sales. Dead old ladies had nice, roomy...dressers. A few years back I picked up a fantastic one, with a gigantic mirror, for $60 US.

You will need to do some hunting for a real estate sale versus a generic crappy garage sale. Arrive early and have a truck or a friend with a truck who is willing to either come with you or come very shortly after you spot it.

I'm taking you at your word on limited funds; lord know when I lived in Columbus I wasn't exactly shopping at the fancy furniture stores at Easton or on High Street. My dresser was from Target, and made of sparkly pink and purple plastic.

The Salvation Army in Clintonville has a decent housewares selection, but you're competing with broke OSU students for good finds.

One More Time in Grandview has secondhand furniture; there's another resale furniture shop right across the street as well, next to the Speedyway gas station. Don't go to the one further west on High Street, it's only clothing.

I'm seconding Flower Child. I love that place. (gently strokes her $40 vintage bike, whispers sweet nothings to the banana seat)

You could always try Value City Furniture. It looks like there are four in the Columbus area.

There are several ReStores in that general area. They are independently operated though, some only carry building supplies, etc. It's worth a phone call.

disclaimer: I used to work for Habitat.

Look at ReTagIt on Goodale Ave in Grandview. It's the big purple building between Northwest and Grandview Ave. They have pretty fair prices and good turnover. I'm still regretting not picking up some velvet ottomans I saw in there last month. You wouldn't think it would be that regretful, but I put my feet up an awful lot.

There are several affordable dressers, modern and classical, at Stacks and Stacks.
