Projecting Palin

What is the psychology behind Sarah Palin's relentless popularity within her own party? She is unequivocally unintelligent and perpetually misinformed, yet her brand cachet is unstoppable. How is this possible?

She comes across as friendly, easy going, and like she is "someone I can have a beer with" - which we all know worked so well before when it comes to approval rating in politics.

She's kinda pretty and she's kinda quirky. She's down to earth but a former beauty queen, and she gives the Republican party a glow of non-sexism and progressiveness to counteract the pro-life/super-religious element.

In short, she's nice to have around, and she gives them something to be excited about.

Charisma. She has it.

Large portions of the mass Republican Party don't value intelligence and informedness as highly as they do certainty and apparent decisiveness. Other large portions of the mass Republican Party would enthusiastically support Satan if he promised to ban abortion.

This is chatfilter, because it's just an invite for people to play armchair psychologist. Flagged.

My grandfather likes her because she's 'attractive'.
It's a terrible reason to support a politician but he's 83 and just about anything might look good at that age. It wouldn't suprise me if the 'hot' factor accounts for a lot of her support among pudgy middle-aged conservatives.

She gives people (especially moms) who ended up having to compromise their education or careers for family or financial reasons basis to think that not only did they make the right choice (maybe they did, maybe they didn't), but also that they're the only people with the know-how to run the country, and that people who are truly educated "just don't get what it is to be American."
