What anime did I watch as a child?

Some time around 1992-1995 I watched a japanese cartoon on German TV that I'm trying to hunt down again. I can't remember what its called, or all that much about it, so it's been somewhat impossible to hunt it down.

I remember that it centred around a girl who is not human in some way (either by being an alien or artificially created or supernatural or something like that). She has some magical blue crystal/gem that the bad guys want and are prepared to fight for. The thing with the blue crystal is that it is very powerful in some way, but if a normal human were to touch it, they turn to salt.

I don't remember much of the actual plot, but one thing I remember is that one of the bad guys gets the crystal, at which point he figures out that he's a stock-standard human (as opposed to whatever the protagonist is) and turns into salt. The only other thing I remember is that in the prologue it is revealed that some of the good guys (the protagonist and her friends) get married.

Anyone have any ideas what this show might have been?

Best answer: Just for the record, I started watching Nadia... and the blue crystal has just been put around a human's neck and he didn't turn to salt. But maybe cuz he's a good guy.

So yeah FYI they're all available on Youtube as a playlist and damn addictive. *heh* (I'm on episode 6)

But not sure if it's what you're looking for.

Best answer: The turning to salt bit comes much much later in the series. What the OP is describing is definitely Nadia. It's a really fantastic show; one of my favorites. Just don't get bogged down in the Island story arc around 3/4 of the way through. The show comes back with a bang once that bit is finally over and done with.

Response by poster: You guys are awesome, exactly what I was after. I got incredibly close to discovering the answer for myself, I was looking at the 20000 Leagues article on wiki yesterday… one click away from Nadia!

Indeed, I must correct what I said. Am done watching all 39 episodes now. *wipes away a tear*
