links to standards to naming scans (tiffs and jpgs) of slide images for artist's work?

I about to start an extensive slide scanning project and I want examples of naming conventions used at other institutions. The name of each jpeg should include artist's name and the date of artwork.

Check out the VRA (Visual Resources Association). They have links to content standards VRA Core 4.0 and CCO (cataloging cultural objects; they also include examples. Dublin Core is another popular standard for visual materials. Some organizations mix and match from VRA, CCO, and Dublin Core.

I have looked at these and use them in my work but they seem to warrant using a DOI number to name each file which is too complicated for our purposes.

The military uses a convention called VIRIN. Something like this:

091231-A-1234X-001.jpg

1 = Date photo was taken
2 = Letter signifying branch of service (A=Army, etc)
3 = Last 4 of photog's SSN, + First letter of last name
4 = File number of photo

Hope this helps!
