Movable Type Problem

Movable Type Problem: I have a problem with Internal Server Errors and mt-comments.cgi after upgrading from version 2.6x to 3.14 [MI].

I upgraded mainly so I could use TypeKey authentication in my comments section. However, whenever I try to post a new comment to an entry, I get a 500 Internal Server Error. A check of my server error logs indicate that it's a "Premature end of script headers" while running mt-comments.cgi. It's a bit strange because using the same cgi to preview the comments seem to work. However, trying to post a comment gives me the error.

I've tried some of the suggested solutions I found, such as making sure that I uploaded the CGIs as ASCII and that the permissions are correct. Does anyone have any other possible solutions?

This is a shot in the dark, but I know that due to the recent MovableType spamming issues many hosts have disabled or blocked mt-comments.cgi from running. I would contact your host to get the full answer.

If that is the case, I know it's possible to rename your mt-comments.cgi to hide it from spambots. Google should help find how to do that. I've never gotten around to doing it, myself.

Also, and I know it's obvious and sorry if you already tried this, but this search brings back a fair number of hits.

rename your mt-comments.cgi to hide it from spambots. Google should help find how to do that.

Just rename the file to mt-addcomments.cgi and then edit your mt.cfg file (look for the string "mt-comments.cgi" in there) to make MT aware of the change.

I'm sticking with MT 2.66 because of licensing issues, however.

FYI, I renamed mt-comments.cgi and that worked for a while, however recently spam's been creeping back in again. I haven't had the time to track down how it's happening and if there are any fixes.

Have you asked in the Movable Type forums? The Six Apart folks have seemingly decided that forums are something to hide 7/8ths of the way down an enormous list of links on the Support page instead of making them clear and accessible. But whatever; they're still very useful and you'll find the highest concentration of users-with-solutions there.
