Any Danish Metafiltarians? The Danish Christmas tree is partially decorated with small strings of flags and I'm trying to figure out how to put them on the tree without making them look like ass. Anyone with non-Danish Christmas tree flag decorating experience feel free to chime in . . .

I don't know, it doesn't seem that complicated to me. But then maybe my tree looks like ass too. I put the lights on so they're deep inside the tree then put the flags on in kind of a spiral further out on the branches. Then, for a truly Danish Christmas tree, you need to put paper hearts on it, preferably with butter cookies or little marzipan things inside. The only thing left is to say: God Jul!

I don't know if there is any trick to it; when I used to decorate my tree with flags (Norwegian rather than Danish; I have Norwegians on one side of my family tree) I just put them on as TimeFactor describes, hung loosely with the flags hanging downward. Eventually the string of flags wore out so I finally stopped using them, as it is not always easy to find them here in Seattle. (I suppose a trip to Ballard is in order...)

Oh, and I didn't realize those hearts were Scandinavian -- I grew up making those every Christmas. I can't recall if I learned them at home or at school, though.

The paper hearts would be a hit with my family. We fold paper Moravian stars, or Fröbelsterne, for Christmas decorations.
