African beer - does anyone know a liquor store that sells it in the DC area? In particular I'm looking for Guinean (Guinea-Conakry) beer, but would settle for Senegalese, or Ghanian beer.

You might start with these, and these people might be able to help you out.

I think the people to ask would be the Brickskeller crew. They sell roughly 1000 beers and if there's a local source for African beer, they'd know it, or they'd have the beer themselves.

I would say find an African restaurant in DC, there are a bunch of them... Brikskeller does have the biggest beer menu-- but as far as actually having it on hand, try ordering the really obscure items and you'll see that they don't have as large a stock as they claim.

the Ghana Cafe on 18th St. (near Columbia) sells Star and Club, and probably one or two other beers from West Africa, but I have no idea where to get a good Guiluxe.

I'd try Total Wine & More, if you are looking for retail. I don't know if there are any in DC proper, but there are stores in McLean, Alexandria, and Potomac.

Well, sorry for the bad advice. Apparently Total Wine and more, formerly Total Beverage, doesn't sell beer anymore. My fault, as I live in Oregon now and had no clue..

Total Wine does sell beer. And cider.

There's a liquor store on the corner of Corcoran and 17th (I think -- by the Dupont Safeway, I moved a while ago and memory fails...) The one on the same side of 17th as the Safeway has a surprisingly large selection of foreign beer. Can't vouch for their African selection, but there are a lot of African restaurants in that general part of town, so it might be worth a shot.
