I'm trying to track down a quote, I think from Abbie Hoffman or one of the other Yippies. It was a dark humor sort of joke about how on an upcoming holiday weekend, a certain number of people were going to kill themselves on the roads in protest of the Vietnam War... ring any bells for anyone?

My insta-reaction was that this was a quote from Art Buchwald, but I can't find any evidence...

Like "The National Safety Council has predicted that 372 people will die on the nation's highways this holiday weekend. As of tonight, 249 people have died. Now some of you people just aren't trying"?

I thought it was George Gobel, but can find only one confirmation, and that a sketchy one, on the web.

George Carlin. He says a line similar to this on the "Son of WINO" track of his FM & AM album.
